Symptoms that should be assessed
Persistent toothache, pain when biting, lingering sensitivity, swelling, a gum pimple, a darkened tooth or tenderness around a tooth can have several causes. These symptoms do not by themselves confirm that root-canal treatment is needed.
Call promptly for worsening pain or swelling. Spreading facial or neck swelling, fever, difficulty swallowing or difficulty breathing needs urgent medical assessment; call 000 if breathing is affected.
